At the NATO Summit held in Ankara, heads of state and government adopted a final declaration that reconfirms the commitment of allies to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, which provides for collective defense in the event of an attack on a member state.

The declaration emphasizes the progress in increasing defense spending, noting that by 2025, European allies and Canada will have increased their investments in essential defense requirements by over 139 billion dollars.

"Today, in Ankara, we announce new public procurements worth over 50 billion dollars and commit to expanding collective production capacity and collaborating with industry to accelerate innovation," the joint declaration states.

An important point of the declaration refers to Ukraine, which is recognized for its contribution to transatlantic security. Allies have promised substantial support for Ukraine, including military equipment, assistance, and training worth 70 billion euros for 2026, with similar commitments for 2027.

The declaration also addresses strategic competition, as well as hybrid threats, explicitly mentioning Iran and calling for respect for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

On the first day of the meeting, important decisions were announced, including the procurement of drones and surveillance aircraft, demonstrating the intensified efforts of allies in the field of defense.
