NATO intends to further extend nuclear deterrence in Europe, in response to threats from Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to information from the dpa news agency. This could include the deployment of additional American nuclear missiles in Europe, with possible locations in Poland, Finland, and Lithuania, in the event of a deterioration in the security situation. Experts suggest that the U.S. may have already transferred B61-12 nuclear bombs to the British airbase at Lakenheath. The plan mainly targets non-strategic nuclear weapons, which have a lower explosive capacity and are intended for use against military infrastructure. Currently, approximately 100 B61-12 bombs are stored at six airbases in Europe. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte mentioned that the Alliance continuously assesses the necessary capabilities for nuclear deterrence, without providing specific details about ongoing assessments.
