The NATO Innovation Fund has made its first investment in biotechnology, co-funding $35 million for Portal Biotech, a British company specializing in biothreat detection through protein sequencing. This technology, backed by artificial intelligence, is essential for biosecurity, enabling continuous monitoring of pathogens in diverse environments. The fund, created in 2022, aims to invest more than $1 billion in technologies to strengthen NATO's defenses.
