During a visit to Kiev, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte underlined the importance of "solid security guarantees" for Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement with Russia. These guarantees would include both the strengthening of the Ukrainian army and security assurances from Europeans and Americans. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski acknowledged the difficulties in structuring these guarantees and stressed the need for them to be similar to article 5 of the NATO treaty. Meanwhile, air alert sirens have been sounding in Kiev over Russian threats.
