Sarah Beckstrom, a 20-year-old young woman and member of the National Guard, died after being shot in Wednesday's attack in Washington, according to an announcement by President Donald Trump.

"Sarah Beckstrom from West Virginia, one of the members of the National Guard we are talking about, a very respected person, young, magnificent, who had started her service in 2023, has just died. She is no longer with us," said President Donald Trump in his announcement.

Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, aged 24, is in critical condition. Beckstrom's father stated that his daughter had a fatal injury and there was no hope for her recovery. The attacker, an Afghan who obtained asylum in the U.S., will be charged with terrorism and other offenses, including first-degree murder, if the victims do not survive. Beckstrom was appreciated by her community and was assigned to the 863rd Military Police Company.
