MTV, emblematic for pop culture for 44 years, will close all television channels by December 31, 2025, according to an announcement from the media group Paramount Global. This decision is the result of a restructuring and cost-cutting process, but also of the changing way in which the audience consumes music, which has increasingly moved online. Among the channels that will be closed are MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live, with the closure starting in the UK and Ireland, and later expanding to other countries, including Romania. Although MTV will cease to exist as a television channel, the brand will continue to exist in the digital space and through events such as the Video Music Awards and the Europe Music Awards. MTV has had a significant impact on music culture, witnessing iconic moments such as the release of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video and promoting diversity in music.
