The European Parliament has debated a motion of censure against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, initiated by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea and supported by 80 MEPs. The accusations concern lack of transparency in COVID vaccine procurement. Von der Leyen dismissed the accusations, calling the motion a "textbook recipe for extremism" and stressed that all member states had access to vaccines. She warned that a resignation could lead to an institutional crisis in the EU.
