The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, has initiated a motion at the Constitutional Tribunal to ban the Polish Communist Party (KPP), officially registered in 2002. The motion argues that the KPP violates the Constitution by promoting elements of the communist system that governed Poland between 1945 and 1989, including through the use of totalitarian methods and violence to gain power. In the past, Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro submitted a similar motion, but the meeting in October was postponed. The KPP has rejected the accusations, claiming that they are unfair and that the party is not responsible for the mistakes of the communist system. According to the law, the Tribunal can strike a party from the register if its activities are incompatible with the Constitution.
