A woman from Australia who raised money from donations claiming that she has a sick child has been sentenced to four years and three months in detention.

A 45-year-old woman from Australia has been sentenced to four years and three months in prison for lying that her six-year-old son has cancer, using this lie to raise money and support an extravagant lifestyle. Judge Geraldine Davison stated that her actions were a "device for seeking attention" and included forcing the child to wear bandages, shave his hair and eyebrows, and take medication against his will. The woman pleaded guilty to 11 charges, including fraud and actions that could harm the child.

The judge described the crimes as "cruel" and "manipulative," emphasizing that the woman created a significant deception in her son's school community. It was also mentioned that the woman had financial difficulties and a gambling addiction following the Covid pandemic, but her lawyers argued that she did not intend to harm her children. Her husband stated that the situation destroyed the family, and the woman is eligible for parole in April next year.
