Montenegro has taken a significant step towards joining the European Union, after EU officials began work on the accession treaty. EU ambassadors approved the formation of an ad-hoc Working Group, which will include representatives from member states and will meet periodically to discuss the legal details of the accession process.

Podgorica has closed 14 out of the 33 chapters required for accession. The rule of law remains a major obstacle, with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, urging the continuation of reforms.

Montenegro, which became an EU candidate in 2010, aims to become a member by 2028. President Jakov Milatovic also discussed regional stability and NATO accession with the NATO Secretary General, emphasizing the country's commitment to this process.
