The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that the Hungarian company MOL will acquire a 56% stake in the Serbian oil company NIS, valued between 900 million and 1 billion euros. Vucic rejected reports that MOL had paid between 1.7 and 2.5 billion euros. He also mentioned that Serbia has good relations with Russia, but did not want to explain the reasons why the Russian side did not accept the Serbian offer.

Recently, MOL and Gazprom agreed on the details of the sale agreement for the Russian stake in NIS, which will be subject to approval by the US OFAC. The agreement will allow Serbia to increase its stake in NIS by 5%, thereby enhancing decision-making rights and protecting the interests of citizens. NIS owns the only refinery in Serbia and an extensive network of gas stations in the region.
