Romanian entrepreneurs Iulian Stanciu, former head of eMAG, and Adrian Crețoiu, owner of the consulting company First All Energy Europe, have fully taken over Gazprom’s network of gas stations in Romania. The transaction was approved by the Competition Council.

The two took over the chain from NIS Petrol, the local subsidiary of Serbian oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). NIS Petrol’s capital was acquired through the Romanian company Argenta SRL, which specializes in metal construction. Adrian Crețoiu owns 60% of Argenta, while Iulian Stanciu controls the remaining 40%, according to information published by Economica.net.

Gazprom’s network in Romania comprises 19 gas stations. The transaction takes place in the context of NIS being targeted by U.S. sanctions because of its Russian shareholders. Gazprom Neft owns 44.9% of NIS, while Gazprom holds an 11.3% stake. The two Russian companies must sell their stakes following international pressure and sanctions.

Context: Transactions and reconfigurations in the energy and retail sectors, involving Romanian entrepreneurs

Before taking over the Gazprom gas station network in Romania, Iulian Stanciu was involved in a series of investments and partnerships. Among these, Inspire Asset Management, the company he founded, was set to become a shareholder in NIBIRU Real Estate, a transaction subject to the approval of the Competition Council.

At the same time, Stanciu also appeared in the context of discussions regarding expansion into electro-IT retail: PPC intended to acquire Flanco, a company controlled by him, and discussions were ongoing without a finalized agreement.

In parallel, the region’s energy market was marked by tensions and transactions related to sanctioned Russian companies. In this context, negotiations regarding the sale of Lukoil’s assets, including potential assets in Romania, as well as the preparation of an offer for these international operations, were reported.
