Sarah Dzafce, the winner of the Miss Finland 2025 title, was stripped of her crown just three months after the competition due to a controversy generated by a photograph deemed offensive. The image, in which Dzafce was pulling at her eyelids, was interpreted as a racist gesture, and the accompanying description intensified the criticism. Although Dzafce explained that the photograph was taken in the context of a headache and that the description was added by a friend, the public reaction was vehement.
In a press conference, Dzafce issued a public apology, acknowledging that racism is unacceptable. The Miss Suomi organization decided to replace her with the first runner-up, Tara Lehtonen, who promised to fulfill the role with respect and responsibility. The CEO of Miss Suomi emphasized that Miss Finland must reflect the values of the country, including respect for diversity.
