The lawsuit, which begins Monday in Washington, targets allegations that Meta spent billions to eliminate competition in the social media market. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleges the Instagram and WhatsApp acquisitions were meant to protect Facebook from competitors. Jennifer Newstead, Chief Legal Officer of Meta, criticized the lawsuit as 'weak', and CEO Mark Zuckerberg could testify. If the FTC wins, Meta could be forced to sell off parts of its business, which would significantly hurt the company's revenue.
