At the European Council summit in Brussels, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz underlined the importance of crucial weeks and months for Europe, calling for a swift resolution of the trade dispute with the US. Merz backed the European Commission's efforts to reach an agreement in view of the July 9 deadline for suspending US tariffs. He also mentioned other pressing issues such as finalizing the EU-Mercosur trade deal and continued support for Ukraine.
