Germany rejects the relaxation of sanctions on Russian energy, in contrast to the American position and the signals from Moscow regarding an "inevitable" relaxation.

The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on Friday that any relaxation of the sanctions imposed on Russia is wrong, in the context where the United States has granted a 30-day waiver for the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products blocked at sea. Merz emphasized that, although there is a problem related to prices, supply is not affected.

The Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere supported the same position, stating that energy sanctions should not be relaxed.

The waiver was issued to reduce pressures on oil and gas, but its impact has been limited, with the price of Brent crude returning to 101 dollars per barrel. Merz reaffirmed that Germany does not want to become part of the conflict, while the Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev suggested that the relaxation of restrictions on energy from Russia is becoming inevitable.
