Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister of Italy from 2014 to 2016, warned that a victory for the far right in France in the 2027 presidential elections could mark the end of the European Union as we know it. At the international forum World in Progress in Barcelona, Renzi stated that the rise of the far right is a consequence of the blockage of the European dream, which should represent a place of peace and prosperity.

He emphasized that Europe is facing a problem of over-regulation and bureaucracy, which has led to political instability, especially in France, considered "the true sick man of Europe."

Renzi highlighted that, to avoid a victory for Jordan Bardella or Marine Le Pen, it is necessary to create a new center-left option.

Josep Borrell also stated that a victory for the far right could severely impact the European project.
