Mattel has announced the launch of the first Barbie doll with autism, part of the company's efforts to promote diversity and inclusion among children. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects how individuals interact with society, and the new doll is created in collaboration with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network to reflect the experiences of autistic children.

Barbie has a side glance, flexible joints, a fidget spinner, noise-canceling headphones, and a tablet with alternative communication symbols. Dressed in a purple striped dress, the doll joins other Barbie models that represent various disabilities, including blind dolls and those in wheelchairs. Jamie Cygielman, Mattel's global head of the doll department, emphasized the company's commitment to reflecting the reality and possibilities that children see.
