On Saturday, thousands of Hungarians took to the streets in Budapest, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, following a scandal related to abuses in a juvenile detention center. The protest, led by opposition leader Peter Magyar, took place despite the cold weather, with participants carrying banners reading "Protect the children!" and symbols of solidarity, such as stuffed animals and ropes. The prosecution announced the detention of seven individuals involved in physical abuses at the detention center, and Orban condemned these acts, calling them unacceptable. In the context of the April elections, the government placed juvenile correctional institutions under police supervision, while investigating a former director suspected of organizing a prostitution and human trafficking ring. Protesters expressed outrage over the situation in the country, emphasizing that the abuses are shocking.
