On Wednesday evening, emergency services in Australia were alerted at 11:15 PM (1:15 PM GMT) regarding a fire that got out of control at the Viva Oil refinery in Geelong, Victoria, which supplies 10% of the country's fuel. Firefighters stated that the fire, which involves liquid fuels and gas, is not yet extinguished but is contained within the factory. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and Viva Energy has assured that fuel deliveries will not be affected. The refinery, opened in 1954, has the capacity to process up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day, producing gasoline, diesel, and other hydrocarbons. The fire comes a week after Viva Energy finalized an agreement with the Australian government to secure energy resources in the context of tensions in the Middle East.
