French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Europeans must decide how to use frozen Russian assets, following Donald Trump's proposal to invest 100 billion dollars from these assets in reconstruction projects for Ukraine. Macron emphasized the importance of a firm response from Europe to the threats posed by Russia, warning that a weak attitude could send a signal of weakness.
He also reiterated that France will not send young people to fight in Ukraine, but is preparing to announce the establishment of a new voluntary military service, aimed at gradually recruiting up to 50,000 people per year. This initiative comes in the context where other countries in the region have reintroduced mandatory military service.
