In a letter to Cameroon's President Paul Biya, Emmanuel Macron officially acknowledges that France waged a war in Cameroon, marked by repressive violence by the colonial authorities and the French army. The admission follows a historical report highlighting the nature of the conflict, underlining that the violence continued after independence was proclaimed in 1960, by supporting the actions of the independent Cameroonian authorities.
