At the Paris Peace Forum, President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for a stronger agenda for protection and regulation in Europe, in the face of foreign interference through social networks and informational abuses. He criticized the way social platforms are designed to maximize advertising revenues, which affects democracy and the veracity of information. Macron highlighted that these platforms contribute to creating an atmosphere of excitement that distorts the relationship with truth.
He also mentioned that Russia is a major actor in using fake accounts to destabilize European democracies. In this context, he promised a regulatory agenda that would be compatible with innovation and support public interest actors, rejecting innovations that serve obscure interests.
