The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, rejected the resignation of Monique Barbut, the Minister for Ecological Transition, who announced Wednesday morning on LinkedIn that she is stepping down due to increasing pressures on her ecological agenda.

The government spokesperson, Maud Bregeon, confirmed that the two agreed on three fundamental pillars: forests, water, and environmental health, areas in which Barbut committed to actively engage. Tensions between Barbut and the government have escalated in the context of a controversial agricultural bill that allowed the temporary use of a banned pesticide and increased water storage quotas for farmers.

Barbut criticized the government for its change of position regarding the pesticide, considering it a significant setback in environmental policies. She agreed to remain in office at Macron's request, emphasizing the urgent need for action against climate change.
