A luxury yacht approximately 80 meters long was repeatedly spotted between July and mid-October in satellite images taken off the coast of Wonsan, North Korea. The vessel was near a villa used by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his family.
The feature that drew attention is the approximately 50-meter pool installed on the deck, with several water slides at one end. After being kept for months at a maintenance facility, the yacht was moved in early July near the Kalma Peninsula, close to Wonsan.
Other large vessels were observed in the same area. Experts, defectors, and former North Korean officials claim that they are used by Kim and his family, since access by ordinary people to such vessels would be practically “impossible.”
According to a former regime official, the vessels are kept at the shipyard during winter and moved to the leader’s residences in summer, for swimming and recreation.
