The invasion of locusts in southern Ukraine is considered unprecedented and is linked to the ecocide caused by the war, in particular the destruction of the Kahovka dam. Although locusts have been observed previously, the problem is worse in 2023 and 2024. Outbreaks have been reported in the Donetsk, Zaporozhe, Herson, Odessa, Dnipro and Vinnitsa regions, and local authorities have intervened with insecticides. So far, locusts have not affected crops, but farmers are advised to monitor crops.
