The Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė announced the temporary closure of the border crossing points Šalčininkai and Medininkai with Belarus, due to the launch of a significant number of meteorological balloons from Belarus into Lithuania. This situation has led to the closure of Vilnius and Kaunas airports, affecting flights and passengers.
The State Border Service intercepted 12 meteorological balloons and detained four individuals suspected of smuggling. Ruginienė mentioned that the National Security Commission will meet next week to assess the necessary measures against traffickers and the Lukashenko regime. If attempts to illegally penetrate the airspace continue, Lithuania may completely close the border with Belarus.
