Lithuania decided on Sunday to close the airport in Vilnius and the border crossing points with Belarus after several objects, believed to be helium balloons, entered its airspace. This is the fourth similar incident in the past week, according to Reuters. Lithuanian authorities suspect that the balloons are being used by smugglers to transport contraband goods and accuse the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, of not taking measures to stop this activity. Air traffic was suspended until 23:40 GMT, and the border with Belarus will remain closed until the meeting of the National Security Commission of Lithuania, scheduled for Monday. The airport in Vilnius was also closed in previous days due to these repeated incidents.
