Lithuania closed its airspace over the capital Vilnius after 'several dozen' balloons were observed, suspected to be part of a smuggling operation with drugs. Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee to discuss the situation, blaming Belarus for responsibility.
The airport in Vilnius was closed, affecting 30 flights and approximately 4,000 passengers, but it was reopened at 6:30 AM. Authorities intercepted 12 balloons and detained four suspects, and investigations continue to identify the organizers. Ruginienė emphasized the need to protect the airspace and technical cooperation with Belarus, in the context of a series of similar incidents in Europe.
