Serghei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, stated that the European Union is not a suitable partner for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
In an article published by his ministry, Lavrov argued that the true objective of European leaders is to support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, not to negotiate with Russia. An EU official confirmed that there have been recent diplomatic contacts, but without substantial discussions.
Lavrov criticized the expansion of NATO and the European Union towards Russia's borders, emphasizing that dialogue cannot be conducted with an impartial observer. He also warned of the risks of a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO, which could lead to the use of nuclear weapons, with devastating effects.
