The American envoy and son-in-law of President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, had a meeting in Egypt on Sunday with leaders of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, according to sources from the France Presse agency. The information was confirmed by a diplomat to Reuters.
The meeting took place in Cairo, where Kushner and Nikolai Mladenov, the representative of the Peace Council promoted by Trump, discussed with Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediators, including officials from Hamas. During the discussions, Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the US-mediated peace plan, which was rejected by Israel. Kushner emphasized the need for the complete disarmament of Hamas and its exclusion from the future Palestinian government.
An Israeli official also mentioned that Kushner and Mladenov will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who previously stated that the plan proposed by Trump is "unacceptable".
