The nearly three-hour meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff was described by the Kremlin as useful and constructive, taking place ahead of the expiration of Trump's ultimatum to Putin to stop the war in Ukraine. Kremlin adviser Yuri Ușakov emphasized that Putin had sent signals to Trump, but was waiting for Witkoff to inform the US president about the talks. Although previous meetings have not changed Putin's position, Trump has taken a tougher stance on Russia, threatening new sanctions if a favorable agreement on Ukraine is not reached.
