The Kremlin reacted on Wednesday to reports that the Starlink service had been restricted for the Ukrainian military, stating that this technology should not be used for military purposes. The spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, said that Moscow was following the reports, but that it was too early for conclusions.
Peskov said that he had no additional information beyond what had appeared in the press. He noted that, on the one hand, there are statements that military intelligence support is continuing, while on the other hand, technological limitations and the interruption of the transmission of some information to Ukraine have been reported.
Several sources close to the government in Kyiv said that the service provided by Starlink satellites, operated by SpaceX, had been restricted overnight. The reports come amid tensions between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, following Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.
Washington had previously threatened that it could suspend the provision of intelligence to the Ukrainian military. Zelensky, in turn, accused the allies of not warning Kyiv about some Russian attacks, including the one targeting an important power plant in the capital.
