King Charles will be the first monarch of Great Britain in modern times to reveal his personal tax return, and the tax payments will be communicated on Thursday in the annual royal financial accounts.
This decision is part of an effort for modernization and transparency, considering recent calls for greater openness regarding royal finances, especially after the scandals involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The measure will include the King's income tax, profits from the Duchy of Lancaster, personal investments, and gains from his estates, such as Sandringham and Balmoral. Buckingham Palace has emphasized its commitment to publish the King's taxes annually, thus continuing initiatives for openness towards the public. Although monarchs are not required to pay income tax, King Charles voluntarily pays income tax and capital gains tax on the sale of private assets.
