North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated that Pyongyang could get along well with the United States, provided that its nuclear status is recognized.
During the Workers' Party congress, Kim rejected any attempts at dialogue from South Korea, calling it "the most hostile enemy." He emphasized that if Washington abandons its hostile policy, there is no reason not to cooperate. Kim also announced that Pyongyang will cease to consider South Koreans as compatriots, labeling Seoul's conciliatory moves as "insincere."
Despite South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's efforts to resume dialogue, Kim stated that the only way South Korea can live in safety is to sever any ties with the North.
North Korea, equipped with nuclear weapons, continues to be subject to international sanctions due to its armament programs.
