Khamenei's burial: The funeral processions highlighted the divisions in Iranian society

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, died as a result of American and Israeli airstrikes on February 28, after nearly 37 years of leadership.

The funeral took place in his hometown, Mashhad, on Friday morning, after days of public mourning. Khamenei is the second leader of Iran to be buried in this city, after Nader Shah in 1747. The funeral processions began on Saturday, with authorities blocking streets and airspace, while crowds commemorated the leader who ruled with an iron fist.

The funeral was an attempt to demonstrate unity in a deeply divided country, but Khamenei's reign left many sectors of Iranian society disappointed, following crackdowns and economic stagnation. Additionally, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was absent from the ceremony, raising questions about his ability to lead during this delicate period.

The reason for his absence remains unclear, but experts suggest it may be related to security considerations.
