The British Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized the decision of the West Midlands police to ban fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv from attending the Europa League match against Aston Villa, scheduled for next month. This measure was taken after the police classified the event as 'high risk', considering past violent incidents, such as attacks on Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters in Amsterdam. Starmer stated that it is a 'wrong decision' and emphasized that the role of the police is to ensure the safety of all fans.
Criticism also came from opposition leader Kemi Badenoch, who called the decision a 'national disgrace' and demanded guarantees for the safety of Jewish fans in stadiums. The Jewish Leadership Council also condemned the ban, deeming it unacceptable. Aston Villa confirmed that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be able to attend the match on November 6.
