American rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, is scheduled to perform two concerts at Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg on October 10 and 11, according to an announcement posted on the stadium's Telegram channel. These shows could represent one of the most significant appearances by an international star in Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Tickets have varied prices, ranging from 9,000 rubles (approximately 106 dollars) to 160,000 rubles (about 1,885 dollars), and the cheapest ones sold out quickly.
Gazprom Arena, with a capacity of approximately 70,000 spectators, is the stadium of the football team Zenit St. Petersburg. The announcement of the concerts comes after a tumultuous year for West, marked by controversies related to antisemitic statements, which led to cancellations of shows and bans in Europe. In January, the artist apologized for his remarks, attributing them to an undiagnosed brain injury and untreated bipolar disorder. If the shows go ahead as planned, Kanye West will become one of the most well-known Western music stars to have performed in Russia since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
