Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former American president Donald Trump, has abandoned a controversial project to build a luxury hotel on the ruins of the former Yugoslav army headquarters in Belgrade, which was bombed by NATO in 1999. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed the abandonment of the project, denouncing a "witch hunt" against the investor.

The project, estimated at 750 million euros, was suspended after the indictment of the Serbian Minister of Culture and other officials for abuse of power and falsification of documents related to the cultural heritage status of the site. This abandonment has raised concerns about the deterioration of historic buildings and was met with protests from citizens who value the symbolic significance of the place. The project was initiated in 2024 but was affected by corruption allegations and ongoing investigations.
