In a new bout of extreme heat, Japan on Tuesday reported a record high temperature of 41.8°C in the city of Isesaki, beating the previous record of 41.2°C. Meteorologists warn of the link between climate change and intensifying extremes, and farmers fear poor harvests due to drought. The summer of 2024 was the hottest on record, and signs of global warming are showing up in the early blossoming of cherry trees and delayed snow formation on Mount Fuji.
