Japan will deploy long-range missiles on an island in the East China Sea

Japan is set to deploy large long-range missiles on Kyushu Island, in the East China Sea, according to an official from the Japanese Ministry of Defense. The Ministry's spokesperson confirmed that ground-to-sea missiles, with a range of approximately 1,000 kilometers, will be installed at the Kumamoto garrison, starting March 31. Additionally, a Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile (HVGP) system will be deployed at a garrison in the Shizuoka region, aimed at defending Japan's remote islands. Japanese authorities are intensifying warnings regarding China's military ambitions, and at the end of February, Tokyo announced the deployment of ground-to-air missiles on Yonaguni Island, located 110 kilometers east of Taiwan.

This measure comes in the context of rising tensions between Japan and China, after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested the possibility of a Japanese military intervention in the event of a Chinese attack on Taiwan. Furthermore, recent incidents between Chinese and Japanese vessels near the Senkaku Islands, administered by Tokyo but claimed by Beijing, underscore the escalation of tensions in the region.
