Italy has decided to temporarily withdraw all personnel from the military base in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, following a drone attack that occurred on Wednesday evening. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto confirmed that the evacuation was already planned and that it will be temporary. So far, 102 military personnel have been evacuated, and another 75 have been transferred to Jordan.
In total, 101 soldiers remain in the area, and their transfer is being organized with enhanced security measures. The incident caused minor material damage, with no casualties among the Italian personnel. Italian authorities are conducting checks to identify those responsible for the attack and have emphasized that the safety of civilian and military personnel is a priority. Crosetto mentioned that the transfer of the soldiers will be carried out by land, considering the current difficulties in air transport.
