The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that Israeli troops have been authorized to advance and take control of additional positions in Lebanon, in the context of the IDF operating in the south of the country. The Israeli army specified that the soldiers are positioned near the border, as part of an advanced defensive posture, without involving an extensive ground operation. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has claimed drone attacks against Israel, including the launching of rockets at IDF bases. The Israeli army intercepted two drones that penetrated its territory.
These escalations occurred after Israel began striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, in response to attacks by the militant group, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 people. The Lebanese government has banned Hezbollah's military activities, a rare measure in previous conflicts. This situation is seen as an opportunity for Israel to reset its position in the region.
