Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has announced a total power blackout caused by extreme temperatures, reaching up to 50°C, and increased demand for power especially in Kerbala province, where an important religious commemoration is taking place. Two transmission lines failed, causing losses of more than 6,000 MW. Although homes have been powered by generators, the situation has led to dissatisfaction among the population, who are experiencing frequent blackouts. Climate change and gas emissions are contributing to Iraq's heat waves.
