Mohsen Rezaei, the military advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stated that negotiations between Iran and the United States are stalling due to Iranian assets frozen abroad, estimated by Tehran's media to be between 100 and 123 billion dollars.
Rezaei emphasized that for Donald Trump to reach an agreement, he must unblock some of these assets, considering them a test of trust. He stated that any agreement with the U.S. is conditioned on this unblocking, stressing that the respective funds belong to Iran.
In the context of recent tensions, Rezaei threatened that Iran will extend the conflict beyond the Persian Gulf if hostilities continue, but mentioned that the likelihood of war is low. Despite the ceasefire agreed upon on April 8, hostilities have reignited, especially around the Strait of Hormuz.
