Iran has agreed with the United States to a two-week ceasefire, allowing the passage of no more than 15 ships per day through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for the transport of about 20% of the world's oil. This decision comes as a retaliation following the conflict triggered by the US and Israel on February 28, when Iran restricted the passage of ships through the strait.
At its narrowest point, the Strait of Hormuz is only 34 kilometers wide between Iran and Oman. Over 200 ships have been blocked in the Persian Gulf due to the closure of the strait, and the ceasefire agreed upon on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday aims to find a negotiated solution to exit the conflict. However, Iran has warned that it will withdraw support for the ceasefire and will block the strait again if Israel continues its bombings in Lebanon.
