At Haga, leaders from over 50 countries, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President of Moldova Maia Sandu, signed a document to launch the international commission for claims. This commission will assess and decide on compensation requests for damages caused by Russian attacks, estimated at hundreds of billions of dollars. The commission will operate within an international compensation mechanism and will analyze claims submitted by individuals, companies, or the Ukrainian state for damages suffered since February 24, 2022.
Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel emphasized the importance of reparations for Ukrainian victims, stating that accountability is essential for resolving the conflict. Details regarding the funding of compensations, including the use of frozen Russian assets, are still under discussion. President Zelensky stated that it is crucial for Russia to be held accountable for its actions. It was also mentioned that estimates for the reconstruction of Ukraine amount to 524 billion dollars over the next decade, excluding recent damages.
