Representatives of Ukraine, the United States, the European Union and NATO will meet this week in Brussels to discuss the security guarantees Ukraine could receive after the war with Russia ends, in the event of a peace agreement. The announcement was made Monday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with TSN.
According to Zelensky, the meeting is expected to take place on Tuesday or Wednesday. He did not say whether he would attend in person. The European Union will be represented at presidential level, while NATO will be represented by its secretary general. Zelensky’s attendance and that of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have not been confirmed, with the Ukrainian communications adviser citing changes in the US side’s plans.
Witkoff and Kushner met with Zelensky in Oslo and Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg last week. Following the discussions, Russia and Ukraine agreed to resume US-mediated negotiations, with a trilateral meeting planned for November.
Zelensky said he was seeking partial ceasefires to halt attacks on energy infrastructure and in the Black Sea. He also wants a direct meeting with Putin to discuss ending the war and territorial issues, but the Russian leader is making such a meeting conditional on progress in preliminary negotiations.
