Dozens of indigenous Teduray people in the Philippines have suffered gastrointestinal symptoms after eating a stew made from a rare species of turtle.

The incident happened in a seaside town in the province of Maguindanao del Norte, with three people dead and at least 32 hospitalized. Eating sea turtles is illegal in the Philippines, but they are considered a traditional delicacy in some communities. In addition to the human casualties, several animals that had eaten the turtle remains died. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.
