The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India has arrested six Ukrainian citizens and one American who illegally entered Myanmar to train rebel groups involved in the civil conflict in the country, which erupted after the 2021 coup. The seven suspects were presented to a judge who ordered their detention for 11 days. They entered India with visas, traveled to the state of Mizoram, and crossed into Myanmar, where they contacted armed separatist groups.

NIA suspects that they participated in training ethnic militias in Myanmar and delivered drones sourced from Europe. Violent clashes between militias and the army have led to the displacement of tens of thousands of residents from Myanmar into India. New Delhi imposes the requirement of obtaining a special permit for foreigners traveling to Mizoram and other areas with tribal populations.
